View PostLast week Tuesday, I had the privilege of photographing a Women’s Day Breakfast that was hosted by the Chris Burger and Petro Jackson Players’ Fund to celebrate the women in rugby. The event was held in the bowls clubhouse at the Kelvin Grove Sports Club, in Newlands.
For those who don’t know, the organisation helps rugby players (at all levels) who have sustained life changing injuries on the field by providing them with life-long support. This comes in various guises and may include things like wheel chairs, hospital beds, financial assistance, etc. I found out about this organisation through social media and was given …
Unathi and I met last year through the group Brownsense where she needed some input concerning her decor business. We moved our discussion to email and I, eventually, gave her a call. We discussed the opportunities for black business owners in Cape Town’s wedding industry and talked about forming a partnership. I mentioned that I would be moving to Cape Town, where she was based, and we promised to keep in touch. Fast forward to almost a year later and we finally meet. I took some pictures and sat down to chat with her over a cup of tea:
Me: Tell me a bit about …
As of Sunday, I will officially have entered the final month of pregnancy! It has been so tough! The weather in Cape Town is almost always above 30 degrees celsius, our house doesn’t have any form of air conditioning and we still don’t own a fan ( I need to make this a priority)! So I thought it would be a perfect time to share how I’ve been keeping happy and positive in the last stretch of pregnancy considering all the challenges that are unique to the stage and our climate:
1. NUDITY
I spend most of my days, in my bedroom…naked ( why do …
January has finally come to an end. It’s been a crazy few months for me – with the move and all. The kids ( the older two) started school and I now have some time to plan and take a sober look at the year ahead. I haven’t quite written down my goals but I’ve decided on few areas of focus. The plan seems to be unfolding as I go: I’ve started meeting the right people and gathering the resources that I need. A word that’s been popping in and out of my mind (when contemplating my plans) are the words of Jesus when …
About three months ago, a seed was planted which now marks the beginning of a new life in our family! While we are quite an adventurous and brave couple, we still struggle with embracing change even when we know that the end result will be exactly what we’ve always dreamed of!
Two weekends ago we visited Genesis Clinic to confirm that we are expecting our fourth! This came exactly a week after confirming that we’ll be moving to Cape Town!!! We are excited about it all but we’re apprehensive about giving birth in a new city, having had all our babies at Genesis in …
I am not ashamed to admit it (although I really should be): I have a selective understanding and interpretation of the Bible. I believe that all sins are equal (although I can’t be as bad as those who worship idols). Equally, I don’t REALLY think that when we talk about tithing, God wants the ACTUAL 10% of GROSS earnings; don’t Bibles have typing errors? They do, right! I joke, I think. Alas, without dwelling on my sinning ways and the many ways I misread my Bible, I completely relate to the above scripture. It has proven itself true and worth the paper it’s written on, …
For those of you who don’t know, my husband and I are currently attending a marriage course based on Bruce Wilkinson’s teaching series: A Biblical Portrait of Marriage (Listen to the podcasts here). I am finding the course to be life-changing. It delves deeply into the core aspects of marriage (leaving, cleaving, the role of a husband, the role of the wife, etc.) with, I suppose, the end goal of fostering intimacy and security in the marriage. So today, while feeling over a situation I’m going through, I realised my deep longing for intimacy.
If you know my husband and I well, you will know …
